By 6am we had heard just three very distant gobbles from two birds, so we took off for greener pastures.

Two properties later we got on one that answered a locator call. I called him up to 40 yards, but neither of my shooters ever got a clear shot. I was sitting on the same tree as one of the shooters, and could have killed him twice :x

Having to be to work by 8am, I pushed hard and gobbled at him, trying to get him to quit strutting back and forth at 40-70 yards and come in to kick a jake's tail and take his girl. In stead he went out to 100 yards and strutted and gobbled in a field. Guess he's had his tail kicked in the past!

We put a ridge between us and him and sneaked off to the truck, listening to him gobble as we left.

This hunt was on a place about 3 miles from where Brandon killed his bird. This bird isn't nearly as smart as Brandon's was, and will make another good target next time I have hunters.

I threw 3 different calls at him and he absolutely tore up the Edge, double gobbling numerous times. I know I was calling too loud and too often, but once he hung up and started strutting I pushed him, knowing we were VERY limited on time. Next time he'll get the silent treatment the first time he answers, and might come up to find a deke.

Did I mention that I hate working days during turkey season?

dang that sounds like a heck of an exciting hunt to me. To bad they haven't broke loose yet on that one farm yet though. Sounds to me like you have two guys on your hands that need to pull the trigger and watch em flop.

You are going to have to just quit work during turkey season after this year, you could really tear up the turkey population with more time and more people to take. Good luck and keep us posted on how ya'll do.

I am going to go this weekend to take inventory to see if I have any birds left down here and freshen up the salt licks, put cameras out, and get started on deer season preperation.

I had a couple buddies from work out there again this morning. The bird that roosts in the spot where we made our first set-up the first day was yelling his head off, and went off to the same big hayfield he always does. He gobbled about 200 times on the roost and 200 more on the ground. Two other birds gobbled once each on the roost and never made a peep on the ground. I'm sure he's the same one we were set up on that first day, and the same one that has been giving me fits for God knows how long.

In the morning we're headed straight to the corner he ran to when we bumped him the second morning, and we're going to try and wait him out.

It's supposed to rain steadily all night, with scattered T-storms by 7am.

Dang that is a ton of gobbling. I hope ya'll get him. I know he looks HUGE and I am sure he is with the way he was acting. I would be willing to bet he is the granddaddy of them all and has some hooks to show for it. What ever you do, do not gobble to him. :D I would be set right up where we had cleaned out to sit that afternoon and never did. I bet he walks within gun range of those rocks every morning. I'll be waiting for pics tomorrow.

He never gobbled this morning, and didn't show up in his favorite corner to strut. We left at about 7:30am.

I don't think he roosts there every night.

I do, however, think I can tell within 20 yards what tree he is in.

I may go in there and kick out a path to a spot within 30 yards of his tree. Then I'll wait until I hear him gobble from that tree in the evening, and there is rain predicted. Then I'll take one shooter, someone who can be very quiet, and we'll sneak in there at about 4am, sit down and wait, and kill him when his feet hit the ground.

The only thing that makes me hesitate with that plan is that I do not want to bump him and make him stop using that tree. So I may roost him there and just go sit in his favorite strutting corner at least once.

If I had spent as much time as you had on that bird in the last few years I would be sitting within gun range at shooting time and pop him out like a squirrell. :D Just kidding, I know it would be nice sometimes when they get to be tough, but I doubt I would get any enjoyment out of shooting one out like that. I hope you can put someone on him and get him killed this year.

Hey I just wanted to say congrats Brondon and Chris. You know it
really shows how much both of you love the sport when ya'll will travel all the way to Michigan to hunt an Eastern Gobbler. Thats a true turkey hunter if I have ever seen one, but not to say I wouldnt do the same thing myself. But once again congrats and keep the pics rollin in !
