My brother borrowed my brand new slate and went off chasing a group of 5 LB's that was in the field next to my house when I left for work.
They sneaked up through a river bottom, got to the edge of the field, and Craig called one up with my slate and a Classic Cutter diaphragm.
It was VERY windy, and I think the slate was the ticket to get the bird's attention. He clucked a few times on the diaphragm with the bird in close to seal the deal.
